the weagle register
The register

Every first, and how well it holds up.

Alton Weagle kept his own scorecard. Asked whether the records were ever checked, his family gave the only honest answer available: he said he did. This page keeps the scorecard anyway, and marks each line with how much weight it can carry.

Entries below run from Weagle's own ascents in the 1950s through the most recent Alton Weagle Day. The Auto Road has published photo galleries since 2012 but no participant list, so this is assembled from press coverage. It is incomplete on purpose and says so. Corrections and additions are the whole point.

What the grades mean

documented

Named in a contemporaneous report, photograph or official record, linked on the entry.

attested

Repeated consistently by independent later sources. No primary document seen.

claimed

One source, or the claim traces back to Weagle himself. Printed because it is part of the story, not because it is settled.

disputed

Reliable sources contradict each other. Shown, not resolved.

Known gaps

2012, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2024 have no entries here. Galleries exist for 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2024 on the Auto Road's Flickr; the participants simply were not named in any reporting I could reach. 2020 was not held.

An open question

The event ran every year from 2011 except 2020 and 2025. Nobody in the available sources says why 2025 was skipped.

How to get an entry promoted

A claimed entry becomes attested when a second independent source turns up. It becomes documented when someone links the primary: a dated newspaper page, a photograph with provenance, an Auto Road record. Send what you have.
